Hunterdon Medical Center raised the Donate Life flag on Monday, April 22nd to pay tribute to organ and tissue donors and to raise awareness of the life-saving and life-restoring value of organ and tissue donation. In 2023, there were three organ donors, resulting in nine organs transplanted and ten tissue donors, resulting in 403 life-enhancing gifts from Hunterdon Medical Center patients.
Over 100,000 people in the United States are waiting for a life-saving transplant and nearly 4,000 live in New Jersey. An organ and tissue donor can save eight lives and enhance the lives of over 75 others. Every nine minutes another person is added to the donor waiting list and seventeen people die each day waiting for a life-saving transplant. Anyone, regardless of age or medical history, can sign up to be a donor. In-person organ donor registration is available at local Motor Vehicle Commission agencies.
