Raritan Township residents, Shiven Bansal, age 14, and Saanvi Bansal, age 10 wanted to make a difference and give back to their community. The brother and sister team organized a neighborhood car wash during the summer to benefit Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center. The team enlisted over 30 volunteers and washed 73 cars on August 5th, 2023.
“Since Covid, we saw our parents as healthcare warriors helping sick patients without worrying about their own lives and family. We have always wanted to support the mission and vision of Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center helping patients suffering from debilitating cancer by bringing hope and wellness into their lives. So we decided to hold a car wash at our house. We created flyers and distributed them throughout our neighborhood. Our parents helped to make sure we had the right supplies, but we did all the work,” explained Shiven Bansal. The car wash raised $4,100 and proceeds were donated to support Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center. This day brings extreme joy and a sense of pride in our life with our small contribution to the fight against cancer.
This is the fifth car wash Shiven and Saanvi organized and with the help of their parents, the children created the Shivsaa Foundation. “Our slogan is, building community through giving,” explained Shiven. The team hopes to continue this tradition and also host other charitable events in the near future.
