Ellen Scott, RN, Clinical Resource Nurse, ICU/5 West Respiratory Named July Employee of the Month
July 31, 2024
Here are just a few highlights from Ellen's nominations:
Since she has assumed the role of Clinical Resource nurse, Ellen has transformed the morale in the ICU. She has shown a dedication to the unit and has gone out of her way to make sure our Nurses Day celebration made us all feel valued and appreciated.
Ellen is accountable to our director by taking charge of our JCHCO compliance and always demonstrates the ability to work with purpose and intention. Ellen is able to justify her actions appropriately and accordingly within the parameters set for her, be it policy-related or ethically related.
Ellen can adapt to any environment. She is cool, calm, and collected in the most stressful situations. She is flexible with both ICU and 5W helping staff and completing audits, etc. to make sure all the necessary work gets done. She adjusts her schedule between days and nights to meet the needs of the units. Ellen has always been able to handle any situation thrown her way. There have been several Codes I've been involved in where she did not waver or hesitate in her commitment to providing the absolute best care for her patients.
Ellen is committed to making the ICU a better place for staff to work. She helps her coworkers with whatever needs they might have by walking the unit and asking how she can help or how she can be of service. She is always the first one on the unit and the last one to leave in her position. She comes in on her days off to cover for positions that are understaffed, no matter which shift it is.
Ellen is empowered and constantly motivating herself and others to do their very best every day. She leads by example and it is infectious. She'll jump into the worst of the worst situations and work side-by-side with everyone no matter what task. She motivates others to work hard and take the initiative and step up for our patients constantly empowering everyone around her to do better, and be better.
I have never felt more empowered as a nurse than when Ellen took the position of Clinical Resource Nurse. When she is by my side - I can conquer any chaotic shift that comes my way. She radiates empowerment and her light shines on all of us to be empowered, as well.
I've always known Ellen to be cool, calm and collected in any stressful situation thrown her way. That's who she is. She is authentically herself. She has been working at HMC for around 19 years and has always been her true happy, cheerful, helpful self and professional 100% of the time.
Ellen has never been one to leave any person behind. Whether it be group activities, professional commitments, or day-to-day social interactions, she welcomes all to the shift with a smile on her face and a helping hand.
Ellen went above and beyond for Nurses Week to make every single nurse feel important and cared for. She also involved some other staff (Maintenance, EVS, Pharmacy, Respiratory) in on the fun, too! This is who she is, every single day!
As a bedside nurse, I wish I could work alongside Ellen every day. She is the epitome of a leader. She radiates positivity and teamwork. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than her!
