Independence Manor at Hunterdon in collaboration with Hunterdon Hospice will host a special event about Advance Care Planning on Thursday, April 13th from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. The community is invited to join a panel-led discussion with medical, social work, spiritual and legal professionals: Dr. Saritha Mathew, Geriatrician for Hunterdon’s Center for Healthy Aging, Laura Suozzo, LCSW for Hunterdon Hospice, Reverend Mike Atzert, Chaplain for Gentiva Hospice and Robert J. Shanahan Jr, Esq.
Inspired by National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD), which exists to educate and empower individuals about the importance of advance care planning, the evening will be hosted at Independence Manor: 188 Route 31, Flemington, and will include candid conversation, resources and refreshments.
According to a national survey conducted by the Conversation Project, 92% of Americans say it’s important to talk to their loved ones about end-of-life wishes, but only 32% have done so. Understanding and advocating for your personal wishes before a serious illness or an emergent situation arises is incredibly important. Additionally, it is an invaluable gift to give yourself and your loved ones.
