The Roxey Ballet Company’s powerful production, C-Word: Stories of Triumph Over Breast Cancer, brought the real-life journeys of cancer patients to the stage, transforming their struggles and triumphs into movement. The October performance not only honored survivors and those lost to breast cancer, but it also served as a call to action, raising $600 to help cover co-pays for patients at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center.
“We're honored and privileged to raise some money for the Cancer Center,” said Mark Roxey, founder and artistic director of Roxey Ballet. “It’s a program that honors survivors and those who have left us.”
Among the performers was JoAnne Love-Hough, a breast cancer survivor who underwent treatment at Hunterdon Medical Center during the height of COVID-19. Her personal experience inspired the donation’s purpose. “Even though no one was allowed in the building with me, it touched my heart when I would go to have my chemo treatments and a couple of times my co-pays were paid for,” Love-Hough shared. “So when they asked where to give back, I said, ‘It needs to go to the medical center, and it needs to go to co-pays.’”
The $600 raised from the performance will help lessen the already heavy burden carried by those undergoing cancer treatment, ensuring that patients can focus on healing without the added stress of medical costs.
