On October 21st and 22nd, Hunterdon Health Foundation and Main Street Half Marathon of Hunterdon partnered to collectively raise funds for the benefit of Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center. Over the course of these two exciting days, participants engaged in a diverse range of activities, spanning from the packet pick-up expo and the exhilarating Superhero Sprint to the main events of the half-marathon and 4-mile race that took place the following day.
The weekend commenced with a thrilling start on Saturday afternoon at the Red Mill Museum Village in Clinton, where participants gathered in preparation for the race. Entrants had the chance to collect their race materials and savor craft brews courtesy of presenting sponsor, Sunken Silo Brew Works. Parents were encouraged to bring along their young ones to take part in the Superhero Sprint, where children, donned in their beloved hero attire, raced through the charming setting of the Red Mill Museum Village. To ensure a seamless experience, volunteers from Hunterdon Central High School adeptly organized the children into appropriate age groups and facilitated heartwarming reunions with their parents after the race.
On Sunday, the race day kicked off with a vibrant start at the entrance of the Red Mill Museum Village, embarking on a journey that would culminate at Hunts Mill Park. As racers traversed the scenic routes through Clinton and Flemington, their spirits were lifted by a dedicated team of volunteers hailing from various organizations, including the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center, Hunterdon Hematology Oncology, North Hunterdon High School Key Club, Girls on the Run NJ East, Melissa Di Stefano and her family and friends, Hunterdon Central Regional High School Science National Honor Society, and Cub Scout Pack #190. Along the way, these volunteers stepped up to host cheering stations and provide essential hydration at water stops, creating an uplifting and supportive atmosphere throughout the race.
The weekend concluded with a memorable Finish Line celebration, headlined by the sensational local band, The Big Fuss, who played as they crossed the finish line. To add to the festivities, every dedicated participant, whether they ran or walked, was treated to a complimentary beer and a scrumptious breakfast sandwich, courtesy of Sunken Silo Brew Works and St. Joe’s (of Metuchen) Crew Team. Furthermore, each individual received a well-deserved medal upon successfully completing the race.
The events on Saturday and Sunday owe their success to the exceptional support of the organizers. Eric Eisenhart, along with the entire Main Street Half Marathon team, demonstrated remarkable dedication in organizing the entire program. We also extend our gratitude to the town of Clinton and Mayor Janice Kovach for their invaluable support.
Not only did the event exceed all expectations by raising substantial funds for the Cancer Center, but it also made remarkable strides in raising community awareness about the invaluable programs and resources that Hunterdon Health extends to its cancer patients.
