Thank you for your interest in participating in the Volunteer Program for Hunterdon Health. Volunteers are a vital part of Hunterdon Health and make a difference by providing that extra dimension of care and service to our patients, visitors, and staff.
Each year over 500 individuals from Hunterdon, Somerset, Warren Counties, and beyond devote their time serving Hunterdon Medical Center and our many satellite locations. Volunteering at any of our facilities provides opportunities to improve and enrich the lives of others. At the same time, this program will provide insight into the medical and educational services provided at Hunterdon Medical Center, while allowing college students an opportunity to learn about healthcare by assisting staff, visitors, and patients with non-medical tasks. Volunteer opportunities do not include job shadowing or internship experience.
Volunteer assignments are based on the needs of Hunterdon Health in addition to your interests, skills, and availability. Most volunteer opportunities will be available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with some exceptions. Weekend opportunities are minimal. Summer College Volunteers must make a dependable commitment of 2-3 shifts per week for a minimum of 100 hours over the summer. This time commitment allows you as a volunteer to make a real impact on your assigned area and provides the greatest opportunity for personal satisfaction. Volunteers that fulfill their commitment will receive a verification letter of hours and be invited to return over winter break.
The Summer College Application Packet will include:
To be considered for acceptance into the Summer College Volunteer Program for Hunterdon Health, all documents must be returned. Recommendations may be submitted with the application in sealed signed envelopes or mailed, emailed, or faxed directly to Volunteer Resources by the person making the recommendation.
Once an application has been received in its entirety, it will be reviewed to determine the applicant’s eligibility. If the application is accepted, you will be contacted to schedule an interview. The interview will help establish if the applicant’s skills, attitude and capabilities fit into Hunterdon Health’s needs.
If selected to become a volunteer, you will be invited to attend a mandatory six-hour orientation in late May. At orientation, you will need to purchase a uniform for $25.00, and we will take your photograph for your identification badge. We will also review Hunterdon Health policies and procedures including, but not limited to HIPAA, confidentiality, safety and security, infection prevention, patient satisfaction sign-in, and dress code.
