For the past six months, the Flemington Area Food Pantry has been participating in the Nextrex Recycling Challenge program sponsored by Trex. In April, during National Recycling Month, Hunterdon Medical Center was gifted a Trex bench thanks to their efforts.
The bench was presented as part of the Trex Company’s NexTrex Recycling Challenge, which focuses on diverting polyethylene film from landfills and waterways. Common items like grocery bags, bubble wrap and bread bags are recycled by the company for use in their sustainable decking material, railings and outdoor furniture.
According to Jeannine Gorman, Executive Director, Flemington Area Food Pantry, “We have a ton of clear plastic wrapping and bags that comes into the Pantry. Our volunteer, Dave Gambrill, drops off the recycling every Monday and Wednesday to Shop & Shop and records the donation on the trex website. We recycled 1,000 pounds of plastic and earned the bench. Ms. Gorman added, “We’re thrilled to see recycled plastic transformed into a bench that will provide rest and comfort to so many. This wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated volunteer, Dave Gambrill, who faithfully dropped off the plastic and meticulously recorded every donation.”
The bench was placed in a sitting area at the main entrance of Hunterdon Medical Center for patients, visitors, and employees to enjoy.
